Graduated in Dentistry from the University of São Paulo School of Dentistry (FOUSP) in 1993, holding a Master's degree (1999) and a Ph.D. (2001) in Periodontology from the same institution. Currently a Full Professor of Periodontology at FOUSP, he is actively involved in undergraduate education. He is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Dental Sciences, where he served as coordinator from 2018 to 2022. He currently chairs the Graduate Studies Committee (2021-2025 term) and serves as Head of the Department of Stomatology (2023-2025). Additionally, he is a member (2021-2025) and Vice-Coordinator (2024-2025) of the "Câmara de Normas e Recursos" of the USP Graduate Studies Office (PRPG-USP) and is part of the Committee for the Analysis of Graduate Program Regulations at USP (2023-2024).He coordinates the Specialization Program in Periodontology at FUNDECTO and acts as an ad-hoc reviewer for leading international journals such as the Journal of Dental Research, Journal of Clinical Periodontology, and Journal of Periodontology. Furthermore, he is a member of the Editorial Board of Brazilian Oral Research and serves as a statistical consultant for "Clinical Oral Implants Research" journal . His leadership roles in professional societies include serving as a member of the Advisory Council (2019-2021) and Executive Secretary (2022-2024) of the Brazilian Society for Dental Research (SBPqO), the Brazilian Division of IADR. Additionally, he chairs the Scientific Commission of the Iberopan-American Federation of Periodontology (FIPP).He leads the research group Oral Health and Quality of Life in Oncology Patients (CNPq) and has expertise in epidemiology, clinical trials, and systematic reviews. His research interests encompass: (1) risk factors for periodontal and peri-implant diseases (such as smoking, diabetes, and psychosocial factors); (2) special-care patients (including individuals with cerebral palsy, transplant recipients, cirrhotic patients, and individuals with syndromes); and (3) the efficacy of antibiotics and antiseptics in periodontal treatment. One of his key ongoing research projects investigates the effect of smoking cessation on periodontal and peri-implant tissues. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
