He has a bachelor's at Engenharia Florestal from Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1992), master's at Forest Resources and Engineering from Universidade de São Paulo (1997), doctorate at Genetic and plant breeding from Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz (2001) and post-doctorate in Forest Genetics (2007) by the Institut für und Forestgenetik Forstpflanzenzüchtung, Grosshansdorf, Germany. He is a researcher at the Instituto Florestal de São Paulo, teacher of population genetics in post-graduate courses at UNESP/Ilha Solteira (Agronomy), Federal University of Santa Catarina (Plant Genetic Resources) and the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro. Supervise at courses of the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho/Ilha Solteira (UNESP), Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro (Botanical Garden), Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and State University of Londrina (UEL) and is reviewer for several national and international scientific journals. He has experience in the area of Forest Resources and Forest Engineering, with emphasis on Forest Genetics, acting on the following themes: population genetics, quantitative genetics, genetic breeding and conservation genetics. Currently, his main research interests are investigating how it handles contemporary pollen and seed dispersal using genetic markers and parentage analysis; how is the reproduction and spatial distribution of genotypes in tree species located in forest fragments and continuous forests; what are the impacts of selective logging on processes such as mating system, contemporary pollen and seed flow and the genetic diversity of Brazilian Amazon tree species; to determine methods of logging to ensure genetic sustainability and productivity of timber tree species in the Amazon; Application of DNA fingerprints to identify species, country and forest concession of origin of marketed wood; to determine sample sizes for collecting seeds to ex situ genetic conservation and environmental restoration; the genetic breeding of exotic and native to the state of São Paulo tree species as well as for several other Brazilian regions.
