Graduate in Chemistry at the Universidade Federal of São Carlos (1977), master in Physical Chamistry at the Universidade of São Paulo (july/1983), PhD in Physical Chemistry at the Universidade of São Paulo (december/1986), pos-doctorate at the University of Ottawa (may/1988-july/1990) and visiting professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (august/1997-december/1998). Actually, he is full professor at the University of São Paulo (USP) at the Institute of Chemistry of São Carlos (IQSC). He has experience in Chemistry, focusing on Physical Chemistry and acting on the following subjects, electrocatalysis, surface science and material science. Specfic areas: CO, methanol, ethanol and glycerol electro-oxidation, platinum single crystal surface modifications, hydrogen production by water electrolysis, direct metanol, ethanol and glicerol fuel cell, corrosion, photoelectrocatalysis and biomaterials. Scientific and technological contribution for the inovation: (i) development of the direct ethanol fuel cell (he has large experience and knowledge in the ethanol electro-oxidation process being considered by the international community as one of the person with full notorius understanding of this subject) and (ii) viability study and developement of the direct glycerol fuel cell (he is developing fundamental and applied pioneer studies on the glycerol oxidation for technological application in the clean electricity production and add-value chemicals employing the biodiesel synthesis co-product. (iii) Development of the direct alcohol fuel cell photon assisted. University Administration Responsabilities: Presidente of the Coordination Comittee of the Under-Graduate Chemistry Course (1992-1994); Presidente of the Under-Graduate Comission of IQSC/USP (1994-1997 and 2006-2009); Coordenator of the Graduate Program in Physical-Chemistry of the IQSC/USP (2001-2006); Vice-Dean of the IQSC/USP (2010-2014); Dean of the IQSC/USP (2014-2018).
