Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of São Paulo (1990) and in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (1993), Master in Political Science from the University of São Paulo (1998), PhD in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of São Paulo (2003), Full Professor at FAUUSP (2013) and Full Professor since May 2022. Member of the Advisory Board for the World Cities Report 2026 - UN Habitat. Awarded for best doctoral thesis in 2005 by the National Association for Research and Postgraduate Studies in Urban and Regional Planning (ANPUR). Doctorate Honoris Causa granted by the University of Lyon/Jean Monnet - St Etienne, France (2017). Senior researcher at the Housing and Human Settlements Laboratory (LabHab) at FAUUSP since 1998, which he coordinated between 2010 and 2016. Visiting Professor on several occasions at the Institut de Hautes Études de lAmérique Latine - IHEAL, Université de Paris 3 - Sorbonne Nouvelle (2010-20122), at the Université Jean Monnet, in St Etienne, France, (2014 to 2018), at the Ecole d'Architecture, de la Ville et des territoires de Marne-La-Vallée, France (2018), and Laureate of the Chaire BSI-Citydev of the Free University of Brussels (2018). Listed in the Ranking for Scientists of the AD Scientific Index - Top 10,000 Scientists Latin America (position 5285). Author of the book "The myth of the global city: the role of ideology in the production of urban space" (Vozes, 2007), of "Producing houses or building cities? Challenges for a new urban Brazil" (Coordinator - FUPAM/LabHab-FAUUSP, 2012) and of several book chapters and articles. He was Secretary of Housing for the Municipality of São Paulo (2016).
