Marcelo C. Borba is a professor in the Graduate Program in Mathematics Education at São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil, where he coordinates the Research Group on Informatics, Other Media, and Mathematics Education (GPIMEM). His research focuses on the use of digital technology in mathematics education, mathematics videos produced by teachers and students, modeling as a pedagogical approach, ethnomathematics, and qualitative research methodology.He is the coordinator of the book series Tendências em Educação Matemática, which currently has 35 published volumes. He has authored more than 100 scientific articles and is the author or editor of over 20 books in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. He has supervised approximately 60 masters theses, doctoral dissertations, and postdoctoral research projects. From 2011 to 2023, he served as associate editor of ZDM The International Journal of Mathematics Education. He was a member of the CNPq Advisory Committee from 2009 to 2011.He also served, from 2018 to 2022, as Chair of the Education Committee (Comitê de Ensino) at CAPES, a funding agency of the National Ministry of Education in Brazil. Marcelo led a CAPES-PrInt project (20202025) aimed at promoting the internationalization of research on technology in mathematics education in Brazil.He has been a keynote or plenary speaker at PME-44 (International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education), ThailandVirtual (2020); at a Plenary Panel of ICME-14 (International Congress on Mathematical Education), held in hybrid format in China (2021); at ICM-22 (International Congress of Mathematicians), originally scheduled for Russia but held virtually (2022); and gave an invited lecture on Ubiratan D''Ambrosiol of ICME-15, held in Australia (2024).He served on the scientific committee for ICMI Study 27 (on Socioecological Mathematics Education), held in the Philippines (2025), and at the 2nd Annual GRIFE Conference, held in Hong Kong (2025). He received the 2023 Dorothy Stang Award in recognition of his impactful outreach and extension activities in mathematics education.Most recently, as his most significant international recognition to date, he was invited to be a plenary speaker at ICME-16, to be held in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2028.
