Fellow of the Artificial Organs Department (Cleveland Clinic Foundation 1983-1984, USA), fellow of the Institute of Physics (2004, London, England), president of the Brazilian Society of Biomedical Engineering (1998-2000), Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal Physiological Measurements (2002-2004), Board of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPQ, 2014-2017) and Board of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES, 2010-2013). Member of the Technology Assessment Committee of the Hospital das Clínicas (University of Sao Paulo Medical School). Director of the Bioengineering Division (Instituto do Coração, Hospital das Clínicas, Universidade de São Paulo, 1995- ). Main field of interests are Bioengineering, medical technology and tissue engineering. Received the Peter Muranyi For Scientific and Technological Development Award in 2015.
