Birthplace: Brazil

Graduate in Agronomia from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1974), MS (1981) and Ph.D (1983) in Soil Fertility from Iowa State University, EUA. Has experience in Agronomy, focusing on Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition, working on the following subjects: soil analysis, quality control, fertilizer recommendations, fertilizer use efficiency, nitrogen, enhenced efficiency fertilizers. More recently he has been dedicated to the nutrition of sugarcane and evaluation of environmental impacts from the use of fertilizers in crops for the production of bioenergy. Recent awards include the Heroes of the Green Revolution Award in 2015, the IPNI Award in Plant Nutrition 2016 and the Norman Borlaug 2017 Award granted by the IFA (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
