Abstract

This work describes the use of the ATR-FTIR technique to investigate the ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of norbornene with amine-based Ru complexes of type {[}RuCl2(PPh3)(2)(amine)]. Polymerization rates (R-P) were determined by monitoring the appearance of the polymer absorption band at 970 cm(-1) (trans-CH=CH) or the disappearance of the monomer absorption band at 1336 cm(-1) (cis-CH=CH). The results revealed that the amines, as ancillary ligands (pyrrolidine, piperidine, and peridroazepine), present an effective contribution to the polymerization rate (R-p). (AU)
