Resumo

As barreiras geográficas influenciam grandemente o isolamento genético de algumas espécies marinhas, porém a transposição dessas barreiras, por alguns peixes, pode ocorrer, fazendo com que não haja alterações no fluxo gênico das espécies. Os ambientes estuarinos podem estar relacionados com o isolamento de populações devido, entre outros fatores, ao estresse da variação de salinidade inerente aos estuários, inclusive para bagres marinhos, que migram para esses ambientes na fase de reprodução. Os bagres marinhos constituem um excelente modelo de estudo de evolução e biogeografia pois diferentes espécies apresentam diferentes modos de vida e relação com os estuários, assim como diferentes taxas de evolução. Os bagres marinhos que serão estudados pertencem ao gênero Cathorops e Genidens, da família Ariidae, que ocorrem no Atlântico Ocidental, onde são bastante consumidos na pesca de subsistência. No presente estudo realizaremos um trabalho sobre a composição e estruturação genética das espécies C. spixii, C. agassizi, G. genidens e G. barbus. Serão utilizados, marcadores moleculares do tipo SNPs (mutações de um único nucleotídeo), obtidos com sequenciamento de nova geração (NGS), como fonte de informação, para testar hipóteses sobre relações populacionais (incluindo isolamento) nas espécies citadas. O presente projeto contribuirá para o conhecimento da diversidade, conservação e manejo pesqueiro da ictiofauna dos bagres marinhos no oceano Atlântico Ocidental, permitirá o estudo da eficiência das barreiras marinhas para o isolamento destas espécies (o que talvez possa ser estendido para outras espécies estuarinas), permitirá testar hipóteses sobre a biogeografia histórica da costa do Brasil e fornecerá informações relevantes para possíveis ações de conservação das espécies em questão e talvez de outras com modo de vida similar.
