Resumo

The microbiome is composed of bacteria, archaea, fungi, protozoa, viruses, and their genome, found on and within the human and animal bodies. The microbiome has vital importance to homeostasis, metabolism, gut epithelial health, immunologic activity, and neurodevelopment. The microbiome is dynamic and subject to important changes during the life of the host in response to a variety of factors including diet, environment, medical interventions, and disease states. Scientists and students must be aware of the importance of microbiome to human and animal health and also how microorganisms may modify the responses in experimental studies. Since new therapies based on microbiome are being developed, it is also important to know the regulatory approaches to analyze those therapies. The present proposal to FAPESP/BAYLAT aims to bring together researchers from Brazil and Germany interested in microbiome. Two workshops are being organized, the first one in Germany in May 2023 and the second one on São Paulo in May 2024. Mentors from Brazil and Germany and their students will be invited to talk and participate of the discussions and networking with the microbiome community. (AU)
