Resumo

The aim of this visit is to build on previous collaborative work between us and set the path for future work. There are a number of strands of ongoing work that we are keen to bring to completion and the IBC also provides the opportunity to present some of this joint work. The primary objective of this proposal will be to make further progress on our monograph Overdispersion: models and estimation; which will be published by Chapman & Hall - with both of us being very busy and having many other calls on our time, the reality is that real progress is only made during face-to-face visits where we can devote our full time to the project. We will also take the opportunity to complete some other ongoing work. In addition to this, we have both engaged each other in work with other members of our team providing a wider basis for the joint collaboration between the groups. Specific aims are: 1. Continue work on the book Overdispersion: Models and Estimation, by Hinde and Demétrio. 2. To work on the paper Modelling overdispersion in Multinomial data, by Freitas, Hinde and Demétrio. 3. Present a research seminar on Teaching Styles Revisited - 30 years of Modelling, in the Departmento de Ciências Exatas, ESALQ/USP. 4. Prepare the oral presentation "Random effects in cumulative mortality models" and the poster "Overdispersion and Natural Mortality" to be presented in IBC2010. 5. Participate to the International Biometric Conference 2010 (IBC2010), to be held in Florianopolis, SC, from 5 to 10/12/2010. 6. Discuss the development of the thesis of the PhD student Mariana Ragassi Urbano, who is going to stay a year at the NUI, Galway in a sandwich Program. 7. Explore and engage in other potential research collaborations. (AU)
