Resumo

O modelo padrão de partículas elementares encontra-se num momento crucial: Existem evidências sobre a existência de um bóson de Higgs como era esperado há muito neste modelo, bem como vínculos cada vez mais fortes sobre possíveis extensões do modelo, sendo que os próximos resultados experimentais do acelerador LHC deverão nortear a física de partículas elementares das próximas décadas. Este projeto visa à integração de pesquisadores teóricos de física de partículas e campos da UFABC, acrescido de um pesquisador da Unifesp (Diadema), no estudo da física do modelo padrão e de suas extensões. A maioria dos tópicos a serem abordados se referem as possíveis extensões do modelo que possam vir a ser testadas nos experimentos atuais: a) Existência de novas partículas tais como quarks exóticos, diferentes tipos de neutrinos, partículas pseudo-escalares ultraleves e suas consequências fenomenológicas, b) Alternativas ou extensões do mecanismo de Higgs, tais como novas simetrias por trás do mecanismo ou um sistema de bósons escalares mais complexo e a fenomenologia dos mesmos, c) Aspectos mais formais do modelo padrão, tais como geração de massa e quebra da simetria quiral em teorias de Gauge; existência ou não de outras simetrias que sejam violadas (violação de CP forte, violação da invariança de Lorentz, etc...).
