Resumo

Este projeto de pesquisa tem como objetivo o estudo dos processos eletrocatalíticos em sistemas eletroquímicos de interconversão entre energia química e energia elétrica, em dispositivos eletrolíticos e galvânicos. O foco principal tem relação com o estudo de reações envolvidas em células a combustível alimentadas com moléculas orgâncicas e inorgânicas, baterias metal/ar, sistemas eletroquímicos regenerativos, dispositivos eletroquímicos para produção de hidrogênio e combustíveis orgânicos a partir do dióxido de carbono. Serão estudados alguns aspectos fundamentais da eletrocatálise e das instabilidades cinéticas destas reações sobre eletrodos massivos de metais puros (mono e policristalinos) e nanoestruturados. As investigações englobam também correlações entre atividade eletrocatalítica e estabilidade com a composição e estrutura das nanopartículas. Finalmente, serão desenvolvidas pesquisas em sistemas operacionais formados pelos eletrocatalisadores mais ativos, investigados nas etapas prévias. O projeto será executado por uma equipe constituída por membros permanentes incluindo 6 docentes, 2 pesquisadores não docentes, 2 técnicos especializados, e cerca de 40 membros colaboradores temporários como pós-doutorandos, alunos de pós-graduação e de graduação, todos do Instituto de Química de São Carlos, USP.
