Resumo

Prostate cancer (PC) is one of the most prevalent cancer in men in Western world. The study of PC involves in vitro and in vivo models, being laboratory animals and natural occurring PC in dogs the most used ones. Due to the importance of this disease and the role of animal models in cancer study, we are herein proposing the organization of the I International Symposium on animal Models for translational research: PROSTATE CANCER. This symposium aims to bring together researchers, clinicians, specialists in prostatic cancer medicine and research in different species in order to establish a comprehensive platform for learning and discussing in vivo and in vitro models and collaborating to a better understanding of prostatic carcinogenesis, treatment options and models for drug trials. We believe that together we will build up a strong and powerful network of researchers from different parts of the world with a state-of-the-art knowledge and experience in prostate cancer. The symposium will be delivered in English, with no translation to Portuguese. We will invite 7 speakers from different parts of the world, with solid background in prostatic diseases and/or animal models. A specific session for poster presentation will be scheduled and 4 abstracts will be selected by the scientific committee as oral presentations at the end of the symposium. This initiative may represent a starting point for organizing future meetings on different comparative models, such as mammary gland carcinoma, osteosarcoma, head and neck tumors and sarcomas. (AU)
