Possui graduação em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade de São Paulo (1970), mestrado em Ciências Biológicas (Botânica) pela Universidade de São Paulo (1975) e doutorado em Ciências Biológicas (Botânica) pela Universidade de São Paulo (1979). Atualmente é professor titular, ms-6 da Universidade Estadual de Campinas. Tem experiência na área de Botânica, com ênfase em Biologia da Polinização, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: polinização, beija-flores, morcegos, abelhas e mata atlantica.
