Graduado em Ciências Biomédicas pela FMRP-USP(1970); Mestrado em Farmacologia pela FMRP-USP (1973) e Doutorado em Farmacologia pela FMRP-USP(1975); Pós-doutorado no Laboratório do Dr. Solomon Snyder - Department of Pharmacology - Johns Hopkins Medical School - MD-USA (1980) e no Laboratório do Dr. Juan M. Saavedra - National Institute of Mental Health, MD-USA (1981) e Professor Titular do Departamento de Farmacologia da FMRP-USP (1994). Atualmente é orientador junto ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Farmacologia da FMRP-USP e membro da Comissão Coordenadora do Programa. Tem experiência na área de Farmacologia, com ênfase em Neuropsicofarmacologia, atuando principalmente no seguinte tema: estudo do controle central da pressão arterial e dos correlatos cardiovasculares associados ao estresse.
