Daniel Ugarte is Professor at the Institute of Physics, Univ. Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil. Daniel Ugarte obtained his degree in Physic at the Univ. Nac. Córdoba (Argentina) and finished his PhD at the Université Paris-Sud. After a postdoc at the Ecole. Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, he joined the Brazilian National Synchrotron Lab (LNLS, Brazil) in 1993, where he designed and implemented a National Electron Microscopy Facility (opened in 1999). In 2004, he moved to the Institute of Physics ?Gleb Wataghin?, Univ. Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), where he acts as Full Professor. His activities have been related with the experimental study of structural and electronic properties of nanoscale systems, mainly using electron microscopy methods. Several of his PhD students have got the Best Physics Brazilian Ph.D. Thesis Prize (2000, 2003, 2011). He has published about 110 journal papers, several ones in high impact journals (Nature, Science, Nature Nano, Phys. Rev. Lett., Nano Lett., etc.). His articles have received ~16.000 citations (Google Schollar). Prof. Ugarte has given about 90 invited talks in prestigious international conferences among them APS March Meeting, MRS Fall Meeting, Gordon Conf., etc. He received several national and international awards among them Guggenheim Fellowship (USA, 2002), Latsis (Switzerland, 1994) and recently the TWAS Prize in Physics in 2018. He was elected member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences in 2012. (Fonte: Currículo Lattes)
