Obtained PhD in Experimental Pathology & Molecular Biology from Ribeirao Preto Medical School (FMRP), University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. During his PhD, he was also awarded with Science without borders mobility award from Brazilian higher education agency (named CAPES) to join the University of Gothenburg for one year PhD exchange/sandwich program. Dr. Nawaz received his first degree in 2006 as Bachelors of Science (BSc) in Chemistry and Biology. Followed by Master's degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology in 2009 with specialization in genetics, nucleic acids metabolism, protein chemistry and DNA recombinant biotechnology. In 2011, he completed M.Phil's thesis on inherited / congenital diseases with a particular focus on intellectual disability and cognition (neurological disorders). During PhD (2013-2017), he investigated the role of microRNAs in malignant progression of brain tumors (gliomas), with an aim to identify potential therapeutic targets and non-invasive biomarkers. Currently Dr. Nawaz is investigating transport of RNA molecules between cells via extracellular vesicles (exosomes), and applying exosomes as vehicles of RNA drugs, oligonucleotide therapies, and stem cell based therapies. Since, exosomes naturally carry RNAs and transfer genetic material between cells; the exosomes can be used as natural vectors for gene delivery (delivery of siRNA, therapeutic mRNA or miRNA). Dr. Nawaz has won several awards, both from Brazil, and Sweden, has participated in several international conferences, and has published research papers in reputed peer reviewed international journals. With a cumulative experience in scientific writing, publishing, peer reviewing and participation in editorial communications, correspondence, grant writing, grant proposal reviewing, he has joined peer reviewer board for several journals (https://publons.com/author/1268786/). He is also a member of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV), and American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS). In addition to doing science, he has been involved in idea generations, conceived the idea for Biochemistry society at his previous University where he was the founder of Biochemists Association QAU, Islamabad (BAQI) and has served several volunteer activities for the community, namely general secretary of blood donor society (he is also a regular blood donor), and has been participating with teams to help people affected by natural disasters e.g earth quakes and floods.
