Professor Titular-Livre do Departamento de Engenharia de Materiais da Universidade Federal do Piauí. Membro afiliado da Academia Brasileira de Ciências. Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq. Doutor em Ciências pelo Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica. Pós-doutorado em Bioengenharia na Harvard Medical School e Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology). Possui experiência didático-científica na área de Engenharia de Materiais e Biomédica. Atua diretamente no desenvolvimento de biomateriais biomiméticos e bioinspirados aplicados a engenharia tecidual e nanomedicina. Atualmente é bolsista de Produtividade em Possui mais de 130 artigos indexados em revistas de seletiva política editorial, mais de 2400 citações e índice H=24. Coordenou e cooordena diversos projetos como Pesquisador Principal nos principais órgãos de fomento do Brasil, tais como: FINEP, FAPESP, CNPq, CAPES e SERRAPILHEIRA. Revisor de agencias de fomentos nacionais e internacionais, tais como Fapesp, CNPq e Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. É editor chefe associado de dois periódicos internacionais classificados como A1 na Capes, sendo eles: International Journal of Nanomedicine e Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, sendo ambos um dos principais periódicos na área de Nanomedicina e Nanobiomateriais.
