He holds a degree in Agronomy from Maringá State University, Umuarama Campus (2018). As an undergraduate, he developed four research projects on soil acidity, liming, and gypsum application. He holds a PhD from São Paulo State University (UNESP), Botucatu Campus, Brazil. He was a Visiting Researcher at Rothamsted Research Institute, UK, sponsored by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). He is also a researcher at the Research Center for Greenhouse Gas Innovation (RCGI), sponsored by FAPESP-Shell Brazil, where his work includes the Nature Based Solutions (NBS) program. His research focuses on climate-smart solutions to increase soil carbon sequestration and climate resilience. His work investigates intercropping systems and their role in building carbon stocks, stabilizing carbon in soil organic matter, and cycling carbon in tropical soils, particularly in Brazil. He uses process-based modeling to study the impacts of climate, soil texture, and soil chemistry on soil organic matter formation. Having grown up on a smallholder farm in Brazil, he understands the challenges faced by farmers and aims to contribute to sustainable food production systems and a better understanding of carbon dynamics in tropical soils. He is also interested in the role of nitrogen forms in soil organic matter dynamics and how soil amelioration and chemistry can enhance carbon-use efficiency in the tropics.
