Possui graduação em Medicina pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1981) e doutorado em Farmacologia pela Universidade de São Paulo (1987). Atualmente é Professor Titular da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (FMRP/USP). Tem experiência na área de Farmacologia, com ênfase em Neuropsicofarmacologia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: óxido nítrico, ansiedade, glutamato, serotonina, canabinóides e estresse. É orientador dos Programas de Pós-graduação em Farmacologia e Saúde Mental, da FMRP/USP e membro titular da Academia Brasileira de Ciências e da Academia de Ciências do Estado de São Paulo (Fonte: Currículo Lattes)
