Nilson Antonio da Rocha Coimbra

Dr. Nilson Coimbra is a Computer Engineer and Bioinformatician in the Proteomics Technology Center (NuTeP) at the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), where he develops multi-omics analytics and computational methods with an emphasis on single-cell proteomics and proteogenomics. He earned a PhD in Bioinformatics from UFMG (2019), including a sandwich period at the Computer Science Department of the Université de Sherbrooke (Québec, Canada), where he devised phylogenomic approaches to study horizontal gene transfer. He completed postdoctoral training in Clinical Genomics at the University of São Paulos Faculty of Medicine (FM-USP) and in Environmental Genomics at Instituto Tecnológico Vale (ITV). Nilson actively mentors and teaches education, training, and research data management. Among his key contributions, he founded the recent chapter of AB3C in Southeast, the ISCB RSG-Brazil and the League of Brazilian Bioinformatics (LBB); he currently serves as Vice-Chair of the ISCB Education Community (EduCOSI). Throughout his career, he has collaborated with academic and clinical teams to build end-to-end analysis frameworks while promoting community-driven training, open science, and inclusive capacity building across Latin America.
