Atua na área de neuropsicofarmacologia e neurobiologia do medo e da ansiedade. Pesquisador 1A do CNPq. Prêmio de excelência acadêmica CAPES-Elsevier 2015. Membro titular da Academia Brasileira de Ciências. Medalha Neurociências Brasil 2017 (SBNeC). Professor titular aposentado da Universidade de São Paulo. Atualmente é diretor do INeC-Instituto de Neurociências e Comportamento (ww.cerebro-inec.org). Impacto na base de dados web of science: 225 trabalhos publicados, mais de 6660 citações, índice H:45.
