Thais Azevedo Enoki Liarte

I am working as a researcher collaborator at University of Sao Paulo, where I have been awarded with financial support from FAPESP as a Young Investigator (since 2023). I have worked as a researcher associated in the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics at Cornell University (since 2016-2022) and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Tennessee (since 2019 - 2021). I have a PhD in Science from the University of Sao Paulo, USP (2016), Master of Science degree from the University of Sao Paulo, USP (2011), and Bachelor of Science in Biological Physics from Sao Paulo State University, UNESP (2008). My primary research interest focuses on the investigation of the fundamental lipid-lipid, protein- and peptide-lipid interactions using model bilayers. Over the years, my experience working with in vitro lipid bilayers has shaped my laboratory skills on a variety of experimental procedures and techniques. My skills on procedures include lipid-dispersion preparation using Rapid Solvent Exchange, or dry film; giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) using electroformation and gentle hydration procedure; and supported lipid bilayers using small unilamellar vesicles deposition. In addition, I have developed a new method to prepare asymmetric GUVs via hemifusion. My skills on experimental techniques include steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence, light and confocal microscopy, flicker spectroscopy, electron spin resonance (ESR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic and static light scattering (DLS and SLS), and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS).
