A word-prediction eye-typing approach for Brazilian Portuguese entries using geometric movements

Resumo

Eye-typing tools are useful for people with motor impairments who can move only their eyes, and in situations in which users can not use hands or voice for computer-based input. Even though several eye-typing mechanisms exist, works reporting users studies in Brazilian Portuguese are missing. Also, the use of prediction-based mechanisms are scarce due to the interference caused by eyes being very sensitive to various stimuli that may appear on the screen, which interfere in the identication of users' actual intentions. In our work we present an eye-typing tool for Brazilian Portuguese language which provides word recommendation. Our results show that our method for eye-typing in Portuguese domain achieved equivalent speed rates to existing methods for the English language. Moreover, suggested options are widely used by users. (AU)
