Roberta holds a bachelor's and licentiate degree in Biological Sciences (2003) and a master's degree (2005) in Ecology from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), and a PhD in Marine Biology from James Cook University (2010). Her research focuses on the natural history, ecology, and conservation of reef fishes and tropical reefs. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA (2010-2012), where she managed a research station in Fiji and studied coral reefs inside and outside marine protected areas. She was also a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Ecology at the University of São Paulo (2013-16), where she used interaction networks to analyze the formation of fish groups on coral reefs. She is the author of 3 books, chapters in 4 books and has published more than 40 scientific articles on ecology, natural history and conservation of reef fishes and reefs. She has also published articles for non-specialist audiences in magazines and websites.Roberta owns the company Natural History Brazil productions, where she produces nature and wildlife films (Animal Stories, Life in the Blue) and works as a producer for international companies such as the BBC (The Americas, The Green Planet, Primates, Great Rivers of the Earth), Humble Bee Films (Secret World of Sound, Life in Color with David Attenborough), Plimsoll Productions (Secret Beauty of Animals, Super|Natural), Silverback Films (Parenthood), etc. She presented segments on nature and wildlife on television programs such as Domingão Aventura, on Domingão do Faustão (Globo), and Desbravadores do Planeta, on Faustão na Band (Band), in addition to the series Vida no Azul, shown by Animal Planet and Discovery throughout Latin America.
