Under graduated in Medicine from the School of Medicine of Botucatu, São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho - UNESP (1977), specialist in Tropical Medicine from the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (1979), Master (1984) and Doctor (1986) in Internal Medicine from UNESP. Professor Full-Docent (1993) and Full (1999) of Infectology from the School of Medicine of Botucatu - UNESP. He is a Researcher at the Center for the Study of Venoms and Venomous Animals of UNESP (CEVAP), Editor Emeritus of The Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases (http://www.jvat.org) - JCR 2023 Impact Factor = 1.8, CiteScore Scopus 2023 = 4.8 and Cites/Doc Scopus 2023 = 2.19. He is currently a Full Professor of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases at the Botucatu School of Medicine - UNESP. He has experience in Toxinology, Tropical Medicine, Clinical Research and Scientific Publishing, working mainly in the following Disciplines: Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Infectology, Toxinology (accidents with venomous animals), Clinical Research (clinical trials) and Scientific Publishing. Founder and Director of the Center for the Study of Venoms and Venomous Animals at UNESP (Director in 1993-1997, 2006-2014 and 2018-2021), Pro-Rector of University Extension (2001-2004) and President of the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors - ABEC (2008-2011). From 2005 he became coordinator of the Toxinology Research Group certified by Unesp and CNPq. Until 2021, he coordinated two phase I/II clinical trials, respectively named: Use of heterologous fibrin sealant in the treatment of chronic venous ulcers and Use of new apilic antivenom in the treatment of multiple stings from Africanized bees Apis mellifera. These two biopharmaceuticals have been developed by UNESP for over 20 years. In 2018, the Ministry of Health approved the construction of the Factory-School to Produce Samples of Biological Medicines for Clinical Research at CEVAP, UNESP Campus in Botucatu. The agreement was established in 2018 (Proc. No. 873706/2018) between Caixa Economica Federal and UNESP, construction began in 2022 and the opening took place on June 13, 2024. In 2019, he was nominated and inaugurated as a Full Member of the Brazilian Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and in 2021 he became a Foreign Correspondent of the Royal National Academy of Pharmacy (RANF) of Spain. In 2022, he approved with FAPESP (Proc. No. 2021/11936-3) the Center for Translational Science and Biopharmaceutical Development (CTS-CEVAP) and is currently its director. In 2024, he received the ABEC Brazil Medal of Editorial Merit from the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors for outstanding services to scientific publishing.
