Birthplace: Brazil

Professor Valdemiro P. Carvalho-Jr holds a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the State University of Piauí (2005), a master's degree in Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (2008), and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (2012). He is an Associate Professor (with habilitation) in Physical Chemistry at the São Paulo State University "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" (2022). He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Liège, Belgium (2012-2013). He is accredited in the Graduate Program in Chemistry at the Institute of Biosciences, Letters, and Exact Sciences (Ibilce, CAPES rating 5). He coordinated three research aid projects funded by FAPESP: one Young Investigator award (Proc. No. 2013/10002-0, duration 2014-2017), two regular research grants (Proc. No. 2018/06340-1, duration 2019-2021, and Proc. No. 2021/13128-1, duration 07/2022-06/2024), one equipment repair research aid (Proc. No. 2021/10915-2, duration 12/2021-11/2022), and two research aids for scientific meetings: one international meeting (Proc. No. 2018/07900-0) and one national meeting (Proc. No. 2022/04410-8) for presenting research work and giving a lecture, respectively. He coordinated a Science and Technology Fair linked to the 19th National Week of Science and Technology in 2022 (Proc. 404664/2022-9). Internationally, he collaborates with Prof. Walter Baratta on the development of ruthenium catalysts for homogeneous catalysis (CNPq No. 16/2024, CNPq Proc. No. 404854/2024-9; FAPESP Proc. No. 2024/15926-0). Nationally, he is an associate researcher in three research aid projects: one Universal 2021 Category A project (Proc. No. 404435/2021-1) and two FAPEMIG projects (APQ-00372-22 and APQ-04980-23) in partnership with Prof. André Luiz Bogado, focusing on molecular hydrogen production for fuel cells from formic acid. He is the tutor of the Tutorial Education Program (PET) in Chemistry and Physics at UNESP. He was the President of the Permanent Research Committee at FCT/UNESP (2022-2024) and is currently the Head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at FCT/UNESP. He is the coordinator of the Organometallic Catalysis and Materials Laboratory (LaCOM) and serves as an ad hoc consultant for the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). His expertise lies in Organometallic Catalysis, with a focus on the development of novel catalytic systems for mediating tandem catalysis of reactions with distinct mechanisms, molecular H2 production via formic acid dehydrogenation, and hydrogen transfer from ketones and CO2 using alcohols catalyzed by ruthenium complexes.
