Márcio E.S. Alves has experience in formalisms to probe gravity through the polarization modes and dispersion relations of GWs, the stochasticbackground of GWs of primordial origin in General Relativity as well as in alternative theories of gravity (ATG), and evaluation of the sensitivity of detectors to extra polarization modes of GWs predicted by these theories. He has also worked with forecast constraints on parameters of ATG with GWs from compact binary coalescences and electromagnetic counterparts to binary black hole mergers. Currently, he is leading a research project to develop a general gauge-invariant formalism to identify the polarization content of GWs in ATG and evaluate the corresponding sensitivity of the GW detectors to them. He is a member of the VirgoBR group which is part of the Virgo Collaboration which works on the realization and operation of the Virgo GW detector located at Cascina (near Pisa, Italy). He is a professor at the Instituto de Ciência e Tecnologia -UNESP, São José dos Campos, SP, and is a member of the postgraduate program in Physics and Astronomy of the Faculdade de Engenharia e Ciências da UNESP, Guaratinguetá, SP. He is the advisor of undergraduate and graduate students (master and doctorate) at his University on topics of GWs, Cosmology, and Cosmic Strings. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
