Alan C. Pilon is a chemist and assistant professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry of the Institute of Chemistry, São Paulo State University (IQ-UNESP-CAr). He currently serves as the Regional Secretary for the Interior of São Paulo for the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ) for the 2024-2026 term. In 2015, he earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and Natural Products from IQ-UNESP. Internationally, he worked as a visiting researcher in Prof. Lloyd Sumner's laboratory at the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Ardmore, USA (2013-2014), focusing on plant metabolomics. In 2013, he spent time at Leiden University under Prof. Young Hae Choi, employing computational tools in metabolomics. During his postdoctoral work, he contributed to the development of the Natural Products Database (NuBBEDB) at IQ-UNESP (2015-2016) under the supervision of Prof. Vanderlan da Silva Bolzani. At the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto - USP, under the guidance of Prof. Norberto Peporine Lopes, he explored ecometabolomics in degraded and preserved areas of the Atlantic Forest (2016-2020). He was a visiting researcher at Imperial College London, Ascot, England (2019-2020), in Prof. Jon Lloyd's group, studying the evolution of secondary metabolism in angiosperms. In 2020, he began a postdoctoral fellowship at UNB/FCFRP-USP, focusing on metabolomic studies and larvicidal activities of Atlantic Forest species against Aedes aegypti. At the startup Lychnoflora, he supported work management and process mapping. Currently, he has 42 publications, 3 editorials, 4 book chapters, 11 awards, and H-index 19 (Google Scholar). His work emphasizes the chemistry of Brazilian natural products, biodiversity, ecometabolomics, the development of analytical and computational tools for compound elucidation, mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, chemical ecology, and natural product libraries.
