Juliano Maurício de Carvalho

Associate Professor with tenure in Communication Policies, Media, and Creative Industries at São Paulo State University (Unesp), and a research productivity fellow of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). He is a faculty member of the Department of Journalism and the Graduate Program in Media and Technology, as well as the leader of Lecotec Laboratory for Studies in Communication, Technology, Education, and Creativity, at the School of Architecture, Arts, Communication, and Design of Unesp. He holds a PhD in Communication from the Methodist University of São Paulo (Umesp), a Masters degree in Political Science from the University of Campinas (Unicamp), and a Bachelors degree in Journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (PUC-Campinas). He completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Seville and at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and has also served as a visiting professor at institutions in Europe and Central America. His research focuses on journalism and innovation, communication policies, information management, creativity, and the economics of communication and culture. He is co-editor of the collections Revisiting MacBride: Utopias and Dystopias (2021), Media, Innovative Culture and Creative Economy in Pandemic Times (2020), Communication Policies: Institutions, Technology and Regulation (2019), Journalism and Convergence (2014), Political Economy of Communication: Digitalization and Society (2013), and The New Radio: Broadcasting Scenarios in the Digital Era (2010). He has held coordination and representative roles in organizations such as the National Forum for the Democratization of Communication, the Brazilian Association of University Television, the Communication Policies Working Group of Intercom, the National Forum of Journalism Professors, and the Latin Union of Political Economy of Information, Communication, and Culture.
