Resumo

Poales é uma ordem representativa dentro das monocotiledôneas, agregando cerca de um terço das espécies do grupo. O clado das xyrídeas inclui Xyridaceae, Eriocaulaceae e Mayacaceae e é o que apresenta menor suporte filogenético dentro da ordem. Estudos de anatomia floral comparada com espécies do grupo demonstraram que Mayacaceae compartilha poucas características com Eriocaulaceae e Xyridaceae, enquanto que essas duas últimas apresentam várias homologias. No nível infrafamiliar, Xyridaceae é a família mais problemática em termos de circunscrição taxonômica enquanto que Eriocaulaceae e Mayacaceae são mais fortemente sustentadas. Características anatômicas florais e vegetativas de Xyris são contrastantes com aquelas de Abolboda e Orectanthe, corroborando a subdivisão da família. Nesse contexto, este trabalho tem como objetivo levantar caracteres embriológicos e de desenvolvimento de sementes de espécies de Xyridaceae com valor taxonômico e filogenético, procurando contribuir com a elucidação das relações infrafamiliares. Os resultados aqui obtidos para Xyridaceae serão comparados com os dados embriológicos de Mayacaceae e Eriocaulaceae disponíveis na literatura, buscando assim caracteres que suportem o clado xyrídeo em Poales.
