Douglas Gatte Picchi

He graduated from São Paulo State University (UNESP) in the stream of Biosciences in 2003. After the graduation he received further training during 2004-2005 in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the UNESP and contributed in the investigation of some biochemical properties of polyphenoloxidase from spearmint. He obtained a master degree in Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Vanderlan da Silva Bolzani at the Chemistry Institute of Araraquara (UNESP) and studied the cyclic peptides from Brazilian higher plants. In 2009 he received a scholarship from DAAD-CNPq to the Department of Biochemistry and Biology at the University of Potsdam (Germany) to continue his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Elke Dittmann. His work dealt with molecular microbial ecology focused on discovery of novel natural products from cyanobacterial field samples. In 2014, he moved back to Brazil and started a position as post-doctoral fellow at the São Paulo State University, Biosciences Institute of Coastal Campus of São Vicente (UNESP) sponsored by FAPESP (2014-2016) and further by the Young-researchers program of the UNESP (2016-2017). From 2017 till 2020, he worked as Professor at the Ruy Barbosa University (UNIRUY) in Salvador (Wyden Educacional). Besides teaching tasks, he also worked as academic analyst for the planning and innovation office of ADTALEM Educacional do Brasil and integrated the Academic Board committees of Biomedicine and Radiology Faculties. Currently, he is working at the German School of São Paulo, Humboldt Schule, as teacher for Naturwissenschaften (Natural Sciences) as well as adaptation teacher for Chemistry for German students.
