Professor Dr. Renato Alves da Silva was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and began his academic journey with a Licentiate degree in Mathematics from the School of Science and Technology of the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (FCT/UNESP), completed in 1999. Motivated by his interest in mathematical modeling and engineering, he pursued graduate studies at the Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA), where he obtained his Masters (2002) and Doctoral (2006) degrees in Science in the field of Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering, with an emphasis on Transport Phenomena. His doctoral research focused on the analysis of turbulent flow at the interface between porous media and free fluids, contributing significantly to the numerical modeling of shear stress and turbulent kinetic energy jump conditions. From 2006 to 2010, he served as a Substitute Professor and later as an Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), on the campuses of Vitória and São Mateus, where he was also a research fellow of the DCR/CNPq-FAPES/FUNCITEC program. During this period, he developed studies on the turbulent flow of non-Newtonian fluids in porous media.Since 2010, he has been a faculty member at the Federal University of Pampa (Unipampa), where he currently holds the position of Full Professor in the field of Transport Phenomena since August 2024. He has served on both the Alegrete and Uruguaiana campuses. He is the founder and leader of the Advanced Transport Phenomena Research Group (FENTA), registered with CNPq, where he conducts research in computational fluid dynamics, porous media flow modeling, non-Newtonian fluids, turbulence, heat and mass transfer, and numerical simulations applied to complex systems. His work has applications in environmental engineering, petroleum engineering, heat exchangers, and atmospheric boundary layers.Throughout his career, he has taught over 30 different courses in undergraduate and graduate engineering programs, published numerous articles in high-impact international journals, supervised undergraduate theses and scientific research projects, and actively participated in academic administration. His administrative roles have included Department Head, member of university boards and committees, laboratory coordinator, and President of the Permanent Teaching Staff Committee at Unipampa. His academic path is marked by a strong commitment to excellence in education, the training of new researchers, and the development of applied research within the context of Brazilian federal universities.
