Clement Patrick Michel Harmange

Clément Harmange is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of São Paulo. He obtained his MSc (2015) and PhD (2019) in Ecology and Environment from the University of Angers (France). From 2019 to 2023, he served as a temporary Assistant Professor in Ecology at the Universities of Angers and Le Mans (France). He has co-supervised five masters students and one Advanced Technician Certificate student. Between February and August 2023, he visited the Laboratory of Landscape Ecology and Conservation (LEPaC) at the University of São Paulo (Brazil) to participate in the Biota Synthesis project.His research focuses on understanding the spatial processes that shape the distribution of vertebrates (mainly mammals and birds) in heterogeneous environments, with a particular focus on how animals respond to anthropogenic pressures such as landscape changes driven by agricultural activities. These responses are studied across various spatial and temporal scales, as well as levels of ecological organization, to elucidate the processes that connect individual behavioral responses to broader patterns of species distribution and community structure.Clément primarily works at the interface of spatial ecology (including individual movement, space use, habitat selection, and species distribution/occupancy modeling), landscape ecology (analyzing landscape composition and configuration), and R programming (for analytical purposes and tool development). Ultimately, his research seeks to inform population management and species conservation by improving the ability to predict the spatiotemporal dynamics within socio-ecological systems.
