Electrified surfaces in aqueous solutions are omnipresent in all living systems. Understanding ion specific effects continue to be a big challenge. My research interests lie at the boundary between physics, chemistry and biology. My expertise is in mathematical models, and one of the major challenges that have attracted my attention is how we can use the laws of classical physics to address modern biological and biotechnological problems such as the interaction of anti-microbial peptides with living cells and the transfer of drugs used for cancer therapies. In addition, I am interested on the inclusion of nonelectrostatic interactions into the Poisson-Boltzmann model of the diffuse double layer. A more detailed knowledge in electrostatics and the underlying mathematics allows us to enter new pathways toward the development of models that describe specific ion-ion interactions.
