This paper aims at to present a thermal analysis in order to provide the necessary geometry to achieve the desired ammonia concentrations at critical components: distillation column and absorber in steady state conditions for an ammonia/water absorption refrigeration cycle. Operation of these critical components is determining working conditions of the cycle. Distillation column must provide a high purity vapor refrigerant (about 99.9 % wt) to ensure efficiency and reliability work of the cycle. Mass and energy balances of the column were performed using the method of Ponchon-Savarit. Pressure drop and mass flow ratios allow one to determine the internal geometrical dimensions of the column. Column efficiency was found from the transport phenomena analysis in the tray. The process of absorption of ammonia vapor by a weak solution of ammonia-water occurs within the component called the absorber. The absorption process is able to pitch in the removal of thermal energy released during the process. The type of absorber considered in this work is the falling film, for providing high transfer coefficients. (AU) | |
