Resumo

Structural analysis in the context of progressive collapse can benefit from numerical methods capable of handling highly nonlinear behavior. The choice between displacement-based and force-based formulations plays a critical role in the accuracy of the analysis. Despite their relevance, studies comparing the impact of these formulations are limited. This study investigates the influence of displacement-based and force-based formulations on the structural response of reinforced concrete frames, both with and without masonry infill, under progressive collapse. A nonlinear quasi-static pushdown analysis is conducted in OpenSees software to assess the capacity of the structure following the removal of a key element. Concrete frames are modeled using fiber sections with distributed plasticity, while masonry walls are represented by a macro three-strut model. The numerical models are calibrated with experimental data to ensure an accurate representation of the structural behavior. Results show that both formulations effectively capture the structural behavior, with comparable responses in the linear portion of the pushdown curves. In the nonlinear range, the displacement-based formulation demonstrated higher resistance. Mesh refinement and the number of integration points significantly influence accuracy, particularly in regions of concentrated plasticity. The inclusion of masonry infill alters the plastic distribution, leading to the formation of plastic hinges not only at the ends, as observed in bare frames, but also in the central region of the beams. The findings provide practical recommendations on mesh discretization and highlight key modeling considerations for progressive collapse analysis in infill and bare frames. (AU)
