Resumo

Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) color centers in diamonds are highly attractive for quantum information processing, sensing and photonics applications due to their unique quantum and optical properties, including long coherence times and spin-state control at room temperature. Synthetic CVD diamonds enhance these advantages by offering exceptional control over material properties and impurities, making them a versatile platform for photonics and quantum technologies. In this work, we investigate the use of femtosecond laser to generate NV centers in diamond. Specifically, we explore the effects of varying excitation wavelengths (343, 515, and 1030 nm), pulse durations (185-1000 fs), and laser peak fluence, optimizing conditions to maximize defect generation without inducing graphitization. NV centers fabricated under these conditions exhibit a T1 of (3.2 +/- 0.3) ms and T2* of (280 +/- 50) ns, determined using ODMR with an applied magnetic field. We propose a model describing the vacancy generation dynamics, accounting for nonlinear absorption mechanisms and light-matter interaction effects. This model successfully explains the experimental data, providing insight into NV center formation mechanisms. Our findings offer guidelines for optimizing NV center fabrication in CVD diamonds and contribute to a deeper understanding of fs-laser-driven defect generation, paving the way for advanced quantum and photonic applications.
