Hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) is emerging as an energy-efficient intensification strategy, although its application in nanocellulose processing is still at an early stage. Producing stable nanocellulose suspensions remains challenging, as it requires balancing energy efficiency with preservation of intrinsic material properties. In this study, we integrated HC as a posttreatment within an enzymatic platform for producing cellulose nanospheres (CNS), with the dual objective of generating stable nanoscale dispersions and advancing the understanding of morphology-dependent cavitation phenomena. To complement the experimental work, we developed a mathematical framework describing how particle geometry influences torque and dispersion thresholds. Under optimized conditions, HC enabled the production of stable CNS suspensions at concentrations up to 3 % (w/v), with an energy demand of 4.9 kWh/kg and particle sizes of approximately 73 nm, as confirmed by AFM. Spectroscopic analyses (FTIR, 13C NMR, and XPS) ruled out chemical modifications, indicating that the improved colloidal stability arises primarily from physical mechanisms. Consistent with these observations, the framework predicts that dissipation thresholds follow the order CNF >= CNC >= CNS, highlighting the influence of morphology on cavitation-driven dispersion. We hypothesize that the transient formation of cavitation micro- and nanobubbles creates dynamic interfaces that reduce aggregation through electrostatic interactions and interfacial adsorption. Taken together, these findings position HC as a low-energy posttreatment method with clear scale-up potential and as a promising framework for understanding how nanoparticle morphology governs cavitation-particle interactions.
