Resumo

Recycling LIBs from electric vehicles is an economic and sustainable alternative to meet increasing demand for Li. Selective electrodialysis is a promising technique for Li+ separation in (electro)hydrometallurgical processing; however, the influence of co-ions in LIBs leachate remains under investigation. Therefore, this study investigated SED for Li separation from LFP battery leachate containing coexisting ions (Fe2+, Al3+, SO42-, HxPO43-x). The influence of ED reactor configuration-five compartments (Cell 1) and two compartments (Cell 2), current density (25-75 mA/cm2), operating time (6-66 h), coexisting ions (Fe2+, Al3+), pH (1.0-2.4) and Li+ concentration (3.2-6.0 g/L) were evaluated in terms separation, ions flux, selectivity, energy consumption, and current efficiency. Cell 1 showed better performance reaching 12.6 % of Li+ separation, 58.6 of Li+/Fe2+ selectivity, the highest current efficiency of 13.6 %, and lowest energy consumption (1.6 kWh/mol) at 25 mA/cm2. After 66 h, Li+ separation reached 63.8 %, although ion depletion in A/C likely reduced LCD and led to AEM and CEM chemical degradation. Interaction between Li+ and multivalent cations/anions enhances Li+ separation by reducing competitive migration through the formation of complex species (Al(H2PO4)2+, AlH2PO42+, FeH2PO4+), thereby minimizing the free activity of multivalent ions and favoring the selective transport of Li+. Increasing pH up to 1.6 enhanced Li+ separation up to 15 %, whereas higher values (2.0 and 2.4) led to precipitating formation. Moreover, higher Li+ concentration (6 g/L) reduce the inhibitory effect of co-ions (Fe2+ and Al3+). (AU)
