Resumo

As part of ongoing research in Brazil (FAPESP nº 2023/09306-7), this project seeks to broaden the scope of inquiry by critically engaging with both the strengths and limitations of Habermas's work, with the aim of thoroughly examining the central object of my thesis: ambivalence. Drawing on Critical Theory - particularly the contributions of post-Habermasian thinkers such as Robin Celikates and Rahel Jaeggi - I argue that ambivalence must be understood both as (i) a theoretical framework and (ii) a diagnosisof our time. This dual-sided approach demonstrates that ambivalence serves as a powerful theoreticaltool, providing alternative perspectives on the key challenges confronting democracy. Simultaneously, it reveals its practical relevance by linking abstract theoretical insights to urgent contemporary issues, such as the new structural transformation of the public sphere. As I see, through the Fapesp Grant (Bepe), I will have the opportunity to integrate into ongoing international discussions about the crisis ofdemocracy - its limits and possibilities - as well as fostering collaborations and advancing thecontributions of my research within a global context.
