Resumo

Multi-messenger astronomy and astroparticle physics promise drastic improvements in our understanding of high-energy astrophysical processes. Current instruments are addressing some of the most perplexing questions in astrophysics, seeking to understand the origin and role of relativistic cosmic particles, probe extreme environments and explore physics frontiers. This proposal aims at fostering the collaboration among an interdisciplinary team of researchers from Friedrich-Alexander Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg and University of São Paulo in the area of multi-messenger astronomy. Novel instruments coming online with major participation by scientists from São Paolo and Bavaria in the next few years make it timely to discuss how to best exploit the data from these observatories, the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) and the Southern Wide-field Gamma-ray Observatory (SWGO), both to be erected in South America. We apply for two workshops of 5 dayseach, to take place at FAU in 2023 and at São Paulo in 2024. For both workshops, we will bring together early career researchers with leading experts in the field, in particular Brazilian participants from universities spread over São Paulo and German participants from FAU Erlangen, and JMU Würzburg and LMU and TU Munich. The workshops will have leading scientists as keynote speakers. We will have oral sessions, speed collaboration sessions, poster sessions and hands-on tutorials along with ample time for free interaction and discussions, and networking. (AU)
