Resumo

This work investigates the characteristics of the magnetocaloric effect in the first-order phase transitions of the q state Potts model, using the Effective Field Theory in a lattice with coordination number z = 6. The Maxwell relations were used to study the equilibrium behavior of the thermodynamic quantities and the Clausius-Clapeyron was associated with it in the cases with discontinuity in the order parameter of the model. The starting point is a detailed analysis of magnetic properties as a function of temperature and external field. From there, the first-order phase transitions were studied, related to temperatures and external transition fields in the temperature ranges that present first-order phase transitions. Next, we present results of the magnetocaloric effects for the states q = [2, 3, 4, 6], considering the first-order phase transitions with the system in equilibrium. The results showed convergence with others obtained from theoretical and experimental data. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. (AU)
