Resumo

Given the increasing penetration of inverter-based systems in macro and microgrids, reliable modelling of such inverters for studying their impact on system stability is paramount. This paper presents a mathematical foundation of Dynamic Phasors (DP) Transform, using differential equations and Fourier analysis results. By means of modelling and simulation of a particular inverter system, DP modelling is exemplified and an Equivalent Phasor Model is constructed. Using the simulation results, we discuss the shortcomings of Quasi-Static (QS) Modelling, adopted in the majority of modern Electric Power System (EPS) studies, and why it is not suitable for modelling inverter systems. Moreover, we prove that DPs are a better candidate for the formalization of Time-Varying Phasors in EPSs. Finally, we show that the DP framework offers an accurate strategy to model and simulate inverter systems, because, unlike QS models, it is able to re-construct the non-sinusoidal signals that satisfy the system differential equations while offering a unique phasorial representation for such signals.
