| Resumo | |
During the last twenty years, so much has been done concerning the use of optical techniques in health sciences. Particularly diagnostic monitoring associated to treatment of diseases have been developed and increasingly implemented on daily clinical routine. This short review aims to offer insight on the techniques which have produced interesting and relevant results on innovative clinical approaches and the pre-clinical studies that support them. Main focus is provided for photodynamic therapy (PDT) approaches for skin cancer and microbiological control, fluorescence techniques for phototherapeutic approaches such as PDT, and for monitoring of viable tissues as a tool for diagnosis and for transplantation procedures.
