Resumo

The use of renewable energy has increased significantly in recent years. In some cases, the use of renewable energy sources is a matter of vital importance due to the lack of other environmentally friendly and economical energy source. We have analyzed possible scenarios with different types of power generation (diesel, solar, wind) for an isolated system at the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, located on the northeast coast of Brazil. The generation mix, considering wind turbines, solar panels and batteries were implemented in software called HOMER. Various results are obtained by combining the available units of solar panels and wind turbines, including an evaluation of multiple models of turbines with different rated power. We have determined the renewable energies surplus when batteries are used to help the reduction of CO2 emissions. Further analysis is done to determine effect of maximum Depth of Discharge of the batteries in CO2 emissions. We have found that the use of batteries can reduce about 10% the CO2 emissions. (AU)
