Resumo

The boundary layer transition can be initiated by random and small disturbances that evolve as Tollmien-Schlichting (T-S) waves. The evolution of such waves can be affected by surface irregularities, even for those with very small height. As real surfaces are not perfectly smooth, the impact on transition caused by imperfections represents an important topic for industry. In this context, we investigate the effect that bi-dimensional and small bumps have on the T-S waves amplification using an in-house compressible DNS code. The bumps are rectangular which corresponds to the most critical shape compared to those with the same dimensions but rounded corners. A low amplitude wave packet disturbance is included upstream of the bump location. This allows the analysis for the entire band of modes around the most unstable T-S frequency at once. Preliminary results show that for a bump height of 40% the displacement thickness, the N-factor is increased by around 1 compared to that of the smooth plate. Additionally, it is observed the most unstable band shifts towards higher frequencies as the bump height increases. Results considering the compressible regime show the effect of the bump increases along the transonic regime. (AU)
