Resumo

The present work investigates the use of polymethylmethacrylate capillaries for strain sensing based on to their antiresonance guiding mechanism. Initially, we fabricated capillary fiber sensors and analysed their quality by evaluating the thickness variation along their axis. In sequence, we experimentally evaluated the capillary transmission spectra and compared it with the theoretical predictions on the spectra positions of the transmission minima. Finally, considering the thickness and refractive index variations due to the application of strain, we simulated the shifting of the spectrum and obtained a high sensitivity of 0.7nm/m epsilon for the 1419.6nm valley displacement.
