The brain exhibits complex high-order cognitive activity, for instance, traveling waves. In the hippocampus, spatial processing and long-term memory are mediated by such waves. Due to its potential to replicate and explore these oscillatory patterns, mathematical modeling has gained significant attention. In this work, we simulate a hippocampal network and investigate the oscillations that arise within the system. Each neuron is described by the adaptive exponential integrate-and-fire model, interconnected via chemical excitatory synapses. Our findings reveal that different combinations of coupling strength and radius of connection produce different wave shapes. Moreover, we demonstrate a method for spiral waves detection. We show that the appearance of multiple spiral waves leads to global desynchronization. (AU) | |
